December Meeting and Tech Talk

In December, we were pleased to show a screening of the documentary “Santa Monica Airport History: Part 1” by Don Brandsen. It progressed through the first several decades of Santa Monica and the significance of our airport, and highlighted the various political climates that led to unique decisions from the local and federal government regarding airport land use. It was quite interesting to see how Santa Monica developed through the years and was used during the war and after, with Douglas Aircraft plant.

Following the movie, Alex Gersten of the NBAA was available for specific questions from the ladies about land use and the potential future of the Santa Monica Airport. Dave Hopkins from the Santa Monica Airport Association was also present who discussed a bit about the SMAA’s goals. We were so grateful to have their expertise in the room.

During our business meeting, we unveiled a new banner to display at upcoming events, as well as chapter blankets available for purchase with our favorite compass rose logo. We also discussed upcoming holiday party and delivering cookies to the tower.

Special Thanks to Vanessa Gibson for providing the documentary for the screening, as well as Alex Gertsen and Dave Hopkins who answered questions about our local airport. Thanks also to Janie Thomas for picking up snacks and Vanessa for drinks.
