May Meeting and Tech Talk

Our May Meeting was back in Barker Hangar with 6 members, 3 prospective members and 3 guests. Our Chapter Chair gave a report from the Spring Southwest Section Meeting and we discussed the success of our April Fly-In to Camarillo.

Howard Israel (CFII/ATP) was our Tech Talk this evening and to discuss a CFI’s perspective on the difference in learning styles between students. He gave a few examples of things that students have difficulty learning and explained them in different ways (linear vs. lateral, visual vs. abstract, etc.) to show how students learn differently. He impressed upon us the importance of finding an instructor who has the flexibility to accommodate those learning styles and present material in whatever way that will make the student a good and safe pilot. Since many of us are early in our pilot training, and others are looking for advanced endorsements, this was a perfect topic for us to keep in mind when choosing instructors.

We wished chapter member, Aryhnn, a Bon Voyage as she departs for her sometimes-home in London for the next few months. She will be missed, but we know she’ll be back in the fall to rejoin us for our activities and fly-ins, etc.

Special Thanks: Vanessa Gibson for decor and drinks, Benedikta Unter-Ecker for snacks, Judi Barker for use of the conference room, and Howard Israel for his enlightening tech talk.
