October Meeting and Tech Talk

Our October meeting got rolling with 22 members in attendance to listen to a talk by Jill Rutan Hoffman. Jill is an author, entrepreneur and the daughter of the legendary Voyager pilot, Dick Rutan, and niece of renowned aircraft and spacecraft designer, Burt Rutan.

Jill shared captivating stories about her illustrious family of aviators and what it was like growing up in a family where having an airplane being built in your garage or living room was as commonplace as having a carton of milk in the refrigerator.

She shared with us her latest entrepreneurial project Path2Flight, which was inspired by the growing pilot shortage and by the lack of accessibility of flight and aviation experiences available to the general public. She also talked to us about the growing role of electric aircraft in the future of aviation and how it’s lower cost of operation and maintenance can help make aviation more accessible to millennials and future generations.

Our meeting progressed with regular business including updates from our treasurer and progress reports from the Compass Rose and the Air Races committees.

Thanks to Jill Rutan Hoffman for sharing her stories and projects that celebrate our shared passion for aviation.  Thanks to Janie Thomas for picking up snacks and Vanessa Gibson for providing drinks.

And, Thank you to Inaia Jimenez for the guest blog post!
